Just some more stories.

Warning this is a bunch of rambling from a mom who wants to remember what life is like right now later. Could be a boring read at your own risk :). This year has been flying by. I can't believe it is september already. I keep thinking I will post some pictures but never get around to it. But since my other journal writing has lapsed into oblivion I thought I would write down things here to remember them.

Avery was baptized last week on his birthday, which coincidentally was the same day I was baptized September 3rd :) I didn't realize how emotional I would be that day. It wasn't really because he was "growing up" it was more just being overwhelmed by the spirit testifying to me it is right and good. I was so proud of him for making the choice to be baptized and thankful for all the support.
It was cute the day before his interview with the bishop I took him on a drive and talked to him about it. I told him that he didn't have to be baptized that it is his choice. He gets to decide if he wants this. That he will be making promises with Heavenly father that are important. He told me he does want to be baptized. Then I told him the bishop was going to ask him some questions to see if he is ready. He wanted to know what kind of questions so I told him about the promises he would make and the promises Heavenly father makes. I told him he needed to have a testimony; so I asked him do you believe in Heavenly Father....Jesus....the Holy Ghost....the prophet... etc. He said yes to every question and I thought in my mind...I wonder if he really has a testimony or if he is just saying yes to everything I say. Then after some time thinking he said "mom, I really am not just saying yes to everything you say I really do believe that". I was so grateful that he has the seed of testimony and shared that with me.
He is in second grade and is starting to think girls aren't so bad after all to my horror. :) I liked it better when they had cooties. The girls really like him as well aren't they too young for that? He is still a smarty pants. We were driving to soccer and Everett asked if we were in a different state now...I said no we are in the same state but we are in a different city. Avery says "Mom this is a suburb a city is like salt lake city, we are next to or adjacent to the city so we are in a suburb. If we were outside of a suburb we would be in the country like where farms are".
He really likes reading scriptures one night I saw his lamp on in his room after bed and was about to go in there and get mad and tell the boys to go to bed; but when I opened the door they were laying on the floor and Avery was reading the scriptures to Everett. How do you get mad at that :). He got a Camera for his birthday and he loves it. It is so cute seeing him take pictures and video of things. He scrolls through and looks at all the pictures and video he as taken before he falls asleep. One day while I was playing the Wii with him I said; "Wow Avery you are really good" Avery-Well when you are playing with someone bad it is easy....I mean I am not saying your bad mom....um I just mean....I well....I don't know what I am saying. :) I love him so much and wish I had more time with him. School homework scouts soccer rule his life right now and I get the left overs.

Everett boy stated Kindergarten and boy was he ready. Most kids were hoovering around their moms unsure of going in needing their moms. He scootered to school ahead of me never looking back. By the time I caught up to him he was in his desk starting the self starter. I shouldn't have been surprised when Avery went to Kindergarten we went to the room and while Avery was hiding behind my leg being shy. Three year old Everett walked right in picked a desk and sat down. He was ready. :) I didn't realize at the time he thought he was going too. So ya he didn't need me at all. Never looked back even once. I miss him I look forward to picking him up. He is a joy to be around and so happy and obedient. So confident and independent. He cracks me up he is so funny. One day at FHE we were talking about temples and I showed the boys pictures of inside the temple. One picture was the sealing room. I pointed to the alter and told them one day they would take a girl they loved there and they would kneel at the alter. They would promise things like to always be nice to each other and follow Heavenly Fathers rules. Then after they promised things they would lean over and kiss each other. Everett looks disgusted and says "I am totally not doing that....I mean I will go to the temple but I am not kissing her." Another time we were driving and he says "mom I am worried about something" I asked what and he said "college" I asked why anticipating something about moving away from me and he says "Because when you are in college you HAVE to kiss a girl" :). I can only hope he thinks kissing is gross for a long long time. I love the way he says restaurant it "rest-er-not" sounds like astronaut. This is a irreverent but shows how Everett is. He wakes up earlier than everyone else and one morning took Averys camera and mooned it and took pictures of course. Then put it back so then next night when Avery looks through his pictures there is Everetts butt. I didn't know if I should talk about modesty or just laugh my head off at he creativity and practical joke ability. He is always doing nice things like bringing Beckett his blanket when he is sad. Or bringing me my slippers if I mention it is cold. He is a great kid I don't want him to go to school all day next year. I love him.

Beckett boy is talking more but not as much as his brothers were at his age. He will be two next week. He says mom, dad, bee (binkie), up, out, I want, right there, sky, light, cup, where are ye (you), hi-ya, please, some, cookie, cake, stick, rock, swing, outside (si), stuck, Bannana (with lots of tounge action out of his mouth quite funny, Ta da, all gone (with cute hand gestures), soft, hot, Hi, Hello, Bye, uh oh (which he says about 100 times a day, uh-uh (for no), ya (for yes) and crap (ap). One day he spilled my flour on the floor and came running to me saying "ap ap" I didn't know what he was saying then I see it and say "oh crap" he points to the mess and nods "oh ap". It was funny. He is the cutest funniest dancer I love to watch him dance. He has the cutest facial expressions I wish I could find a way to capture them in words. When he wants picked up he holds out his hands palm up and it is too cute to resist. When ever you ask him a question he replies with Ummmm... When he hugs you he says "ohhh" and pats your back. For a few days I really thought he said I love you (I you) when he hugged me but he hasn't don't it lately. He loves the Camera and has a cute cheesy face when he sees it he says "Cheese." He thinks he is five and can do anything he puts his mind too with out any limits. For the most part he is right I am amazed at what he can do. He is a lot of trouble right now. Adorable but trouble.

Close Call

Hello Everyone.
Katie wrote a longer version, but for now, I wanted to post just this-- We took a trip with friends to central Utah. There's a place with a swimming hole below a waterfall that we've been to before, in years with much lower runoff. We took the boys wading, and for a while we were the only ones there. Another family showed up with a couple of young girls- perhaps 12 years old or so. Within a few minutes of being there, one of them got caught in a current that pulled her toward the waterfall and sucked her under.

The chaos that ensued afterward is hard to describe. I saw her uncle looking around for help and trying to figure out what to do. Katie gathered the kids away from the water. I had remembered seeing a long branch or small trunk of a tree on the bank. I ran for it, and tried to reach to her from the bank. I got in the water to get closer, and at some point, I was sucked into the current as well. Much of the rest of what happened is both blurry and difficult to put in order. Both of us were eventually forced out of the current, face down, at the same time. I was told by others that I helped save her life. I haven't convinced myself of that. I do know that there were others who did save my life-- my friend Dustin, who pulled me out and breathed for me, and a pair of German doctors who showed up at just the right time. Perhaps we'll post more later, but for now, I just wanted to get a quick update posted.

did you think to pray?

My kids teach me so much and I am so proud of the little testimonies they have. Yesterday we were at Al's sporting goods getting all the soccer gear for Everett. We had trouble finding his size in everything shirt shorts and finally shoes. After much searching I said "Everett boy I just can't find your size of cleats." He said "Maybe we should pray"....and right there in the middle of the sporting goods store he just starts to pray. And sure enough after he prays I see a box that says Size 11 on it and it was a perfect fit. Thanks Everett for reminding me Heavenly father loves us and answers our prayers.
