Smarty pants Avery

Some people watch and play "are you smarter than a fifth grader" I am starting to feel like I am already outsmarted by Avery who is just entering kindergarten. While driving in salt lake he noticed some graffiti on the underpasses and said "wow look at all those hieroglyphics" I thought it was pretty funny but also thought how do you know that word?" Then the other day he asked me "why do satellites stay in the atmosphere and not float up into space or fall down to earth" I am embarrassed to say I have never even thought about that before and once I did had no idea why. Luckily his smart dad knows a lot about everything (not just boobies :D ) and explained it to the both of us. He told me our next vacation should be to Machu Picchu. I don't even know much about it there. It just seems most the questions I have these days from Avery are above my level of thinking. I am thankful I have him to stretch my thinking and drag me along on his amazing path of learning. I hope I help make him a better person by my actions but am also glad for all the ways he helps me be a better person. I am sad he is growing up so fast and will be in kindergarten. He is an amazing boy and I love him so much. I wish a part of him could always stay my little boy. But I know that is not how it should be I just need to cherish the time I have with him while he is little.

I thought this was too funny not to post. Today we were driving in the car and Avery is telling me about the booby trap he and his friend made the other day. Then he pauses and says "mom why is it called a booby trap...whats a booby?" I said "I don't know why they call it that" Then Everett responds with "We should go home and ask dad I bet he knows what a booby is" :) maybe it won't be so funny in the morning when I am not sleep deprived but right now I think it is realy funny.

Nothin' like kids honesty

So Avery and Everett sure have a way of making you feel good about yourself. With the sun exposer my freckles are more noticable and Everett likes to ask me "why are you all polka dot?" While driving home one day Avery observes "mom, you know what makes me special?....what....I have a good eye and I am clever. Everett is realy good at sneaking treats....and Dad is the greatest fixer and builder ever"....realy long pause...."what are you good at?". And then yesterday Everett says to me "mom I know why I have a potty seat and you don't"...I reply "oh ya why"...to which he says "becuase I have a little bum and you have a realy big bum...it is like huge (with big emphsis on huge with hand gestures). Wow thanks Everett :). Then to top things off yesterday my cute neighbor who is three says "wow Katie you have a realy big belly....do you have a baby in there?....yes...."oh so like when are you going to pop that thing out?". Nothing like hanging out with kids to boost your self esteem. :)
